Hard work, persistence and practice can help elderly people improve their skills

Daily Mail - Science & tech

It is often said that old dogs cannot learn new tricks. But even very old people can keep up with people in their twenties, if they just practise enough. Pensioners can struggle to multi-task, whether picking up the telephone and writing down a message, or remembering a shopping list, because older brains process information more slowly. But in a brain-training game which uses multi-tasking, they did just as well as younger people after practising. The research, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, tracked almost 200,000 people on the brain-training game.

'MLB The Show 17': 3 Examples Of DLC That Would Be Worth Buying

Forbes - Tech

The MLB The Show 17 series has never been big on downloadable content. That's something most fans of the series are probably thrilled about. Who wants to pay extra for more content? However, we know business is about adding revenue, and oftentimes that's accomplished with product expansion. Other sports video games have created a way to make an additional fortune through microtransactions that deliver new access to in-game features and boots.

Why you'll care that MLB The Show 17's fielders are smarter than ever

No matter the sport, any coach at any level of competition will tell you that you must be aware of the situation. That lesson is particularly vital in baseball, where the circumstances -- and strategies -- can change completely from pitch to pitch. Sports fans love to scream at their televisions when an athlete makes a mental error, like forgetting how many outs there are. Players of sports video games do the same thing when in-game athletes aren't as smart as one would expect. Sony San Diego, the studio behind MLB The Show, wants to reduce those instances of frustration.

'MLB The Show 17': New Gameplay Additions Could Make Sony's Baseball Simulation Even More Realistic

Forbes - Tech

When it comes to capturing the essence of a sport, few sports video games have done as good of a job as MLB The Show. To be more specific, MLB The Show 16 and Pro Evolution Soccer 17 had the most realistic gameplay in the genre. If the gameplay additions we learned about in Sony's latest trailer are as advertised, MLB The Show 17 will be even more realistic than its predecessor. More authentic paths for the ball off the bat is the first thing that caught my attention in the trailer. Per Community Manager and Game Designer Ramone Russell, previous versions of The Show modeled a ball caroming off a wall as opposed to a baseball bat. This year's version will use a bat and ball, and the trailer promises "hundreds of thousands" of new possibilities.
